It feels like a significant landmark to have published the third edition of Psychopathology. Students still want to study psychology in their tens of thousands, and a significant proportion of those still enter university with the intention of becoming professional psychologists, and more specifically, with a view to learning about mental health and becoming clinical psychologists. And there is no more important time than now when it comes to learning about mental health. We live in times when mental health problems are more high profile than they've ever been, more people are becoming aware of their mental health and seeking help and support for their problems, and there are many researchers and clinicians who would claim that we live in times when many common mental health problems have reached epidemic proportions. Over the three editions of its life so far, this textbook has been refined to provide the enquiring student with access to most aspects of mental health and clinical psychology, and I hope this new edition is in a form that is easily accessible, engaging and facilitates learning. One of the main aims of this third edition was to update the research database in the book, and we've included a total of over one thousand one hundred new updated references spread across all seventeen chapters. This enables Psychopathology to act as a source book for students and instructors wanting to access the most recent evidence-based research on the causes and treatments of mental health problems.
